Every once in awhile an enthusiastic bird watcher asks for a set of hummingbird bird house plans. Why? Because they want to get a pair of hummingbirds to nest in their yard.

There is a better way to get hummingbirds into your yard. In fact you won’t need hummingbird bird house plans because hummingbirds don’t nest in bird houses.

Will Hummingbirds Nest in a Manmade Bird House?

Hummingbird nests are extremely small and they build them in the open. If fact because hummingbirds’ nests are usually less than 1″ in diameter they virtually can build their nests on almost any branch or platform. With so many nesting spots to choice from it can be very hard to persuade a hummingbird to build its nest on your piece of wood.

If it is highly unlikely to get a hummingbird to nest in my yard by building a house for them, how can I invite them to come into my yard?

Answer?

You can put up a hummingbird feeder or you can create a hummingbird garden. Obviously feeders are the easiest way and the most popular. All you have to do is hang the feeder in your yard and as long as there are hummingbirds in your area then you should start seeing hummingbirds soon.

If you still want to build your very own hummingbird house, then don’t let us stop you. It shouldn’t hurt to try. All you need is a small piece of wood for a platform. After you have that then you need to hang it in voilage, in a tree, near a hummingbird feeder, or other areas that you have seen hummingbirds in.
